Relative of Khan of Kalat Assassinated

The Baloch Hal News

KALAT: Unidentified assailants shot dead the nephew of a provincial minister of Balochistan and a relative of the Khan of Kalat Mir Suleman Dawood in Kalat town, some 160 KM away from the provincial capital on Monday.

According to sources, four unidentified armed men riding on two different motorbikes sprayed a volley of bullets on vehicle of Agha Mehmood Khan Ahmedzai, the nephew of provincial minister Agha Irfan Karim at Shahi Darbar Road in Kalat town and managed their escape from the scene.

As a result, he received four bullets and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Following the attack, Ahmedzai's driver lost control of the vehicle and hit two pedestrians. Both pedestrians sustained injuries and one of them succumbed to injuries in the local hospital.

Agha Mehmood Khan Ahmedzai was a close relative of Khan of Kalat Suleman Dawood, who had taken political asylum in Britain. He was the grandson of Prince Abdul Karim, the first among Baloch nationalists to pick up guns in 1948 to resist the accession of the Kalat State with Pakistan.

Police handed over the body to heirs after completing legal formalities and said that it could be an incident of target killing. No group accepted responsibility for the killing so far. Soon after the incident, shopkeepers closed down their shops as protest.

Baloch nationalist parties, including Balochistan National Party (BNP-Mengal) and Baloch National Voice have strongly condemned Ahmedzai's killing and held government agencies responsible for it.

BNP-Mengal has announced ten-days mourning and complete shutter down strike in Kalat district against the incident.
